Corona Virus - Green Stage Phase 1 - starting June 29, 2020

Saint Elizabeth Catholic Church, Whitehall, PA is now in Phase 1 of the Green Stage during the Covid-19 virus pandemic. Continue reading for guidelines and safety precautions to ensure the health and safety of all parishioners.

Those who are elderly, at high risk, sick, or have other difficulties are encouraged to stay home. Members of a single household do not need to practice physical distancing from each other.

The Parish Office will remain closed to the public for the foreseeable future. We encourage all parishioners to do business over the phone or email. The staff will be in the office Mondays - Fridays from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The website will be updated regularly. The bulletin will continue to be posted to the website each week.

Church Visits

  • The Church will continue to be open to the public daily from 10 AM to 4 PM.
  • Only the main doors on Pershing Blvd. are unlocked.
  • Door handles and other commonly touched surfaces will regularly be sanitized.
  • The Bathrooms will be for emergency use as we will not be able to ensure cleaning between uses.
  • Please wear a mask and observe social distancing of at least 6 feet.
  • There will be no Holy Water, hymnals, pamphlets, bulletins, or book racks.
  • Please ask one of the rectory staff to light a votive candle for you, we would be happy to help.

Sunday Mass

  • Our regular schedule will suffice at the beginning
    • 4:30 PM Saturday
    • 8:00 AM Sunday
    • 10:00 AM Sunday
  • If more Masses are needed they can be added as needed.
  • Mass will be in the Main Church.
  • Please wear your mask in church. Adjust it before you walk into church.
  • Pews are roped off to assist with social distancing (at least 6 feet). Please sit in the numbered rows.
  • The church can hold 450 people safely (50% of capacity).
  • Pews will be sanitized daily after all have left the church.
  • The cry room, choir loft, chapel and sacristy are closed to the public.
  • The Bathrooms will be for emergency use only.
  • There will be no offertory or sign of peace.
  • There will be no collection during Mass; however, you can place your donation in the basket at the back of the church. The usher can help you.
  • Communion will take place at the end of Mass.(see below)
    • After Mass, the priest will return to the sacristy, remove his chasuble, wear a mask, and wash his hands.
    • Only the priest or deacon will distribute communion.
    • Returning to the church you will be asked to come forward, continue to observe social distancing and continue to wear your mask.
    • As you approach the priest, remove your mask, say Amen, receive communion.
      • If you are receiving in the hand, please open your hand completely so as to avoid contact.
      • If you are receiving on the tongue, please open your mouth wide, and extend your tongue to best avoid contact.
      • There is a small table before the priest with sanitizer if you or the priest are in need.
    • After communion, you may return to your pew or leave the church in a way as to not congregate.

Daily Mass

  • 9 AM Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the Main Church
  • 7 PM Thursday, only
  • Please wear your mask in church. Adjust it before you walk into church.

Confessions:

  • Will continue as normal 3:30PM until 4:30PM; however, they will be in the chapel.

Baptisms:

  • Mandatory classes prior to Baptism will be scheduled on an "as needed" basis. Please contact the Church Office for more information. 610-266-0695, Ext 202.

Funerals:

  • Please contact our funeral coordinator at 610-349-7791, or contact the funeral home who will facilitate all necessary arrangements.

Annointing of the Sick:

  • St. Elizabeth will continue to provide the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick to those in imminent need and will proceed with due consideration of the precautions in place.
