Diocese of Allentown
St. Elizabeth is located in the Diocese of Allentown.
Bishop Joseph McShea was appointed the first Bishop of Allentown when the diocese was carved out of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in 1961. Bishop McShea retired in 1983. He was followed by Bishop Thomas Welsh who faithfully served the Diocese from 1983 to 1997. Bishop Edward P. Cullen was appointed from 1998 to 2009 when ill health forced to step down. He was followed by Bishop John O. Barres in 2009. Bishop Barres was asked to serve as the new bishop of Rockville, New York in 2017. Msgr. Alfred Schlert is the bishop elect of the Diocese of Allentown.
